Adding an SMTP Server into Zulu

Created by Matt Reid, Modified on Tue, 11 Mar at 3:15 PM by Matt Reid

If you want Zulu to send emails using your own mail server, you can configure your SMTP settings to improve email deliverability from your own custom domain name / email. Alternatively you can configure your DNS records to allow Zulu's own server to send emails on behalf of your email address.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Access SMTP Settings in Zulu

  1. Log in to your Zulu Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Settings > Miscellaneous
  3. Scroll down to the Outgoing SMTP Mail Settings section

Step 2: Enter Your SMTP Credentials

Fill in the required fields based on your email provider’s settings:

  • Mail Server: Enter your SMTP server address (e.g., smtp.yourdomain.com or smtp.gmail.com)
  • Email Address: The email you want to send from (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com)
  • Username: Usually the same as your email address
  • Password: Your SMTP password or app password (for some providers like Gmail and Outlook)
  • Outgoing Port:
    • Use 465 for SSL encryption
    • Use 587 for TLS encryption

? Tip: If using Gmail, Outlook, or another third-party provider, ensure you enable SMTP access in your email settings

Step 3: Save & Test

  1. Click Save after entering your details.
  2. Send a test email from Zulu to verify everything is working correctly. Go to 'Contacts' > 'Send Message' and test sending a message to yourself.

? Troubleshooting:

  • If emails fail to send, check if your email provider requires app passwords or two-factor authentication (2FA) settings.
  • Ensure your hosting provider allows external SMTP connections.
